Anne Champness accepts new role as CEO with Tatiara District Council
At last week’s Tatiara District Council meeting, Mayor Graham Excell announced that council’s new CEO will be Anne Champness.
Mrs Champness has signed a four year contract and commences work at TDC on November 27. She takes over from current CEO Rob Harkness who retires on November 24 after being in the position for 15 years.
She currently works for Hindmarsh Shire based at Nhill as their Director Corporate and Community Services. She has 11 years local government experience, nine years at Hindmarsh as well as two years at Southern Grampians Shire Council.
Her role as Hindmarsh Shire acting CEO was in the interim after Tony Doyle left the CEO position and prior to the appointment of CEO Greg Wood. It was understood at the time Anne applied for the position and was not successful.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Debra Nelson said, “this is a great opportunity for Anne and I am sure that her experience and local government knowledge will be a valuable asset to the Tatiara District Council.”
Cr Nelson added, “She will be missed by many of the community members across Hindmarsh and we wish her all the best.”
Many locals who knew Anne wrote on social media congratulated Anne on her new appointment and voiced their disappointment she had not been appointed to the role as CEO for Hindmarsh.
Tatiara District Council Mayor Excell said, "we had almost 50 applications for the role which was narrowed down to six and then to three. Council’s selection panel and the whole council were pleased to appoint Mrs Champness to this very important council position. Anne displays a warm and empathetic style demonstrating strong people management, community engagement and technical skills at all levels. We look forward to working with her in delivering what the community needs and in keeping the council in a strong and stable financial position".
Ms Champness said “I am looking forward to commencing the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Tatiara District Council and working with the Mayor, Councillors, staff and the community to ensure that Tatiara is a wonderful place to live, work and play.”
Ms Champness continued that, “Tatiara is highly regarded in the local government sector and I am looking to build on past successes and seek new opportunities for the organisation’s and community’s future.”
Ms Champness added “I am also very much looking forward to becoming part of the Tatiara community and living in this beautiful part of South Australia.”
